Decorating With Spray Paint

A $3 can of spray paint and a little fabric gave this thrift store chair a much needed makeover.

Around my house, I lovingly refer to the warm weather months as "spray painting season". Since spray painting is not recommended when the temperature is below 50 degrees, I can hardly wait for the change of seasons to give a lift to furniture and accessories with this inexpensive and quick method of painting. From the looks of things, I'm not the only one either. I've found lots of examples online of ways to get a new look for tired items with everyone's BFF, spray paint.

A can of spray primer was applied before painting this bench and took it from geriatric nightmare to fabulous. I love the addition of nailhead trim. Read all the details on Moss Electric.

Love this little doily table.

Check out the difference a can of red spray paint made to a kitchen light fixture over at Amber Dusick . The ugly duckling just turned into a beautiful swan!

Valspar Ideas Library has dozens of great ideas for creating decorative items for every area of your home with nothing more than a can or two of spray paint.

Stay tuned. Later in the week I'm going to reveal how spray paint gave a pair of lamps I found for just $29.84 each a new lease on life. Here's a little tease for you.

Before

The last time I saw this color of peach used in a home I was listening to REO Speedwagon on my boom box while my friend Dawn gave me a home perm.

After Priming

Better already, right?

Do you have any plans to update a piece this spray paint season?

  5. I'll be updating our kitchen table and chair set. I've scoured craigslist and can't seem to find what we want for a steal, so this will refresh out kitchen until will find something else we like much better. :) I'll be painting the table but may be either painting or spray painting the chairs.

I love how spraypaint transforms, I just wish someone would invent a low or no-voc version. That stuff is so toxic! lol. Any recommendations on a particular type or brand of mask so I can avoid the fumes?

  8. Hi Karen, I got your comment on my footstool. I know can you believe $45 at Big Lots. It looks like my post would even fit for your today's post. By all means use the Big Lots stool and feel free to use the picture of my before and after if you like!I love sharing in blogland, I think that is what it is all about, helping eachother make our homes beautiful and personal to our own taste. Glad you like it!! You noticed hubby did my painting, I am just a mess, even with spray paint, long story!!! Have a great Monday, Kathysue

  9. Love the shape of that lamp!

I needed 8 matted frames for the nursery, which could add up to serious $$. I found some on clearance for $5/each (!), but they're the wrong color. I already have a can of semi-gloss white spray paint, so my next free weekend will be spent sprucing up those cheap frames!

  10. Hi. Thanks for the comment you left about my chair and ottoman makeover. I'm going to do a post on how I made and covered the foot stool in the next few weeks (hopefully) so keep an eye out.
I LOVE spraypaint season too though it never gets too cold where I live so it's an ongoing celebration for me!

  13. I am just discovering the wonders of spray paint and am constantly looking for ways to use it. This weekend I just spray painted some gold chinoiserie hurricane lanterns I scored off eBay a dusty bronze. Next weekend I'm hoping to spray paint some iron scroll artwork white for my upstairs' bathroom.
