Enter at Your Own Risk

I call this look "organized chaos", but I could live with it!
Via Donkee House

The entry to a homes speaks volumes about the lifestyle of it's inhabitants. Currently, what my entry is saying is, "Caution, socially active teenagers on the premises." Book bags and jackets never seem to make it into the nearby closet. On any given Saturday afternoon I have to dodge a half dozen or more pairs of shoes from visiting friends. I love that the kids feel welcome at our home, but just once I'd love to walk down the stairs and be greeted by something resembling one of these:

  1. We always use our backdoor, and with no kids, we can keep it sort of presentable. But I have to be careful about mail, and not let it pile up.

  2. Karen,
I also have a teenager at home, and it is a constant battle to keep our entry looking good. I dream of someday having a formal entry where I can create beautiful tabletop vignettes with each season and have them remain undisturbed. Someday... The second to last image is my favorite. That one is in my files too. Have a loevly day!

  3. Our entry is filled with boots and jackets left over from winter still. Now I have to go clean it up! lol

  4. What is it about humans that makes us unable to put things away IMMEDIATELY? There is a coat closet literally 4 feet from my entrance, yet my purse gets thrown on the floor every day. These entry ways are beautiful though. Perhaps one day...

  5. We live in a double-wide trailer, so our "entry" is our living room. From the door, you are greeted by a chest-high entertainment center which is usually covered with mail and my man's "missing" keys and hosts my children's clay masterpieces and the candles I try to light when I know someone is coming (to drown out the diaper stink). Don't step too far to the left, or you'll run into the playpen. And don't forget to look down, or you may trip over a toy, a pair of shoes, or a sippy cup!

  6. Ugh, most definitely not! It's a very neglected part of the house, and probably will be until we can hire painters. It has very tall ceilings and lots of wall space, but is also quite narrow. Some day it will be cheerful and pretty like your inspiration photos!

  8. Our "entry" is our living room. However, we have a small table with a mirror and it is definitely not a reflection of my style. It's next on my to-do list! Loved these pictures!

  9. My entry has become a temporary storage area for dining chairs that I intend to make-over. The garage is full so they're spilling into the house, argh.
Wishing it looked as great as any one of these.

  10. I love those entryways and dream of one day having a shoe-free, coat-free, and backpack-free entryway. Then again, maybe my entryway says about us exactly what it should: a family lives here and they have a penchant for Ecco footware, LL Bean coats, and colorful backpacks. Someday I'll have an entryway that reflects a cleaner existence, but right now our entryway at least tells the truth about our lives.

  11. I've always been a fan of that Erin Valencich space (second photo). Love the fresh, modern vibe.

  12. Not at all! I hate the entry into our home as it really isn't an entry way... it is more of a short hallway that says "Our house is small and we have no real entrance" and I hate it.

I have tried so many times to "jazz up" the front hallway of our house, but no matter what I do the kids either get into it, ruin it, or there simply isn't any room.

One day I will have a real home I love that I can decorate the way *I* want to!

    Stoppin' by from SITS!

  13. Count me in for those House Beautiful entry photos. I'd love to have that simple, clean, casual elegance instead of dog hair, flip flops and keys scattered about. Ah Well, such is the life of a family :)

Thank you so much for your kind comment on my LL Bean trunk. If you purchase one I hope you love it as much as I do!

Beginning Tuesday evening I will be having a Woo Hoo! Wednesday weekly event in celebration of all of our Woo Hoo! moments. Most details are on today's post. Stop by and I'd love to have you join us.

    Hugs, Marla

  17. Hey, thank you so much for stopping by my blog! I know what you mean about clutter, me and my fiance always have jackets on the banister, and a pile of shoes in front of the closet door. We are just so lazy! I love the pink setee in the last picture...my cats would puke on it the first week, though :)
