Derby Day inspired decor

Inspiration ideas for your home's decor can come for a multitude of sources, even events like this Saturday's Kentucky Derby just might give you a few ideas that could add a little something special to a room or two in your home.

A beautiful perch for your Derby Day Shoo Fly pie could later serve as a decorative element in your kitchen or dining room. The Scalloped Cake Stand from Williams-Sonoma, $34 for a small stand, could be used in the bathroom to hold a bar of soap and a natural sponge or a collection of small perfume bottles.

The Derby is often referred to as the Run for the Roses. Do I even need to mention ways to incorporate roses into the design of a space?

Roses could inspire the color palette of a room...

Cups used to serve the must-have Derby Day cocktail, the mint julep, make perfect vases for a small bouquet for the bedside table.

You never know, you might even find a morsel of inspiration from the hats you see women sporting on race day.

  6. Love that giant pink rose light! Would look cute in a girl's room. I'm always amazed by the crazy hats. I look ridiculous in a fedora, let alone a wide-brimmed yellow extravaganza. :)

  11. Flowers in mint julep cups are one of my favorite things, especially roses.

Also, I love these images of the hats. I was once lucky enough to sit in really great seats for the Kentucky Derby, and all the hats had me drooling. I, of course, not being a native, did not have a hat. And goodness, did I ever feel naked!
