a collage must be worth millions.
Lately I've been having the hardest time adding the finishing touches to my first floor. Open floor plans can make decorating a huge challenge. By creating a collage of images of some of the areas that I want to complete first, I was able to see things with a new perspective. I didn't try to "fluff" the rooms or bring in flowers or accessories from other spaces. I left the rooms exactly as they were when I got up this morning. The wheels in my head are spinning out of control.
Feel free to add any ideas you think might make my rooms go from half done to ahhhh, finally done. (Click on the image to enlarge.)
Have a great weekend everyone.
Your family room is looking good, Karen! I have a similar floorplan and am in the process of painting and re-decorating, as well. I am way behind you...I love the rug in your foyer. It could be moved into the FR if you wanted to change things up. I love how your rooms flow together with paint and style!
ReplyDeletePlease please find a way to come to my house! I need help!

ReplyDeleteI miss spelt a word in my previous comment: I think I'm more impressed, jealous, and alarmed that your rooms look that nice in the morning....and you're asking us for advice?
ReplyDeleteKaren it is all looking wonderful together, the new wall colors really make all of your pieces stand out. I love the direction you are taking. You have wonderful taste and style. The only thing that I even noticed was the mirror in the entry could possibly be a bit larger, maybe an arched mirror or rectangle and move the sunburst to the wall by the kitchen entry, behind the sofa. Other than that It looks amazing. Love your color scheme!! xo Kathysue
ReplyDelete... and your wheels have been spinning beautifully. Such a fun image AND it looks so nice with the blog banner. :) I love your color choices. Dialed up fun for sure with that rug. Inspired girl.

It is looking really great! I love the brown walls. It makes the space look comfy and warm. I also love how you added color with the turquoise pillows. I think your idea of painting your coffee table in gold would be great! Gold would add just the right bit of glam, and balance out all the other dark colors. Also, adding a vibrant painting with lots of color would look great against the dark walls!! Keep up the good work!

It already looks great! Love the colors you have picked in there. I'm sure with the finishing touches you come up with it will look even better! :)
ReplyDeleteIt does look great. I love the rug in your entryway! What do you think about one more color in there as an accent? Just a little pop of a color you use in one of the adjacent rooms, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I'm loving the turquoise! Maybe there would be a way you could pull that color into the dining room?! I agree, open floor plans are tough but I think I put too much thought into it. Sometimes the best rooms have a few things that actually look a little off. Lauren at Pure Style Home had a really good post about that early this spring.
ReplyDeleteTaking pics of the house as-is then looking at them with a really critical and objective eye is fun. Usually money becomes a problem, but I enjoy dreaming. :)
I think your rooms look fanastic. Maybe more art on the wall? I feel my home is in the same boat, always feeling half finished.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Great job Karen. I love the blue accents!Have an amazing weekend.

Don't ask me for help - I am useless with home and garden stuff! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI keep forgetting to come by & say HI so I am! Have a wonderful weekend!
Oh, I totally understand, I always feel that our own homes are harder to finish for some reason!??! But your space looks really fantastic, I love the color palette, you should be proud!!

Your rooms are coming along so nicely. The finishing touches definitely aren't my specialty. I can handle the big stuff...walls, furniture, layout. It's the little stuff that gets me. I really like what you have done!
ReplyDeleteThe rooms are fabulous I love how you have the smae colors, it really helps bring the rooms together. I know it can be so hard working with a open floorplan, I struggle everyday trying to tie it all together. You have done a wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend and thank you always for your sweet notes!

Karen I think it's looking really great. I love that you have used similar colours throughout the spaces. We're always our own worst critics!
ReplyDeleteIt is such a great idea to create a collage. I love how you can see how all the parts work together. It is also is a terrific starting point for seeing what does not work!
ReplyDeletelooks wonderful! love the colors too. happy weekend to you, Karen!
ReplyDeleteI think your space is gorgeous! I love the colors - that splash of turquoise - so pretty Karen!!
ReplyDeleteYou have an amazing amount of continuity in your home -- not an easy feat to pull off. I love the dark/light contrast. I just can't see anything that needs improving! You have a great weekend, too!

Everything looks wonderful Karen. :) Although I love the turquoise, the only suggestion I'd is to add a bright injection of color for summer like yellow! I'm usually not a huge fan of yellow but I scrolled back up to your collage a couple times and it keeps speaking to me. There a so many different shades and with the thoughts of a gold table in mind, maybe a golden yellow.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful!!! Great job! The blue is perfect!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!

Like everyone else I think you did a beautiful job- definitely the bulk of it is finished. I also agree with Karla- because you have the same color palette throughout- which I like by the way, I might throw a shot of one more color (a warm color) like yellow, orange or gold in one of the rooms. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteKaren, Thank you for that idea of enlarging that lily I painted or something like it on a canvas. I would like to do something a bit brighter for summer over our fireplace. That might just be the ticket. Thanks for inspiring me.

I love your colors and the flow. I think the gold on the coffee table would look terrific. Also agree with other posters about another accent color, I think some green - a rosemary topiary on the coffee table, or a big fern in an old silver bowl on the dining table? Perhaps some plates on each side of the dining room mirror, 3 small ones on each side, I think Home Goods has black and white transferware, I've also seen blue and white. Ok, getting carried away! I love your sense of style, whatever you decide will be fantastic!
