Statement Rugs

One way to save money long term on the design of your home is to stick to solid colors for your high ticket items like sofas and upholstered chairs. This way you aren't faced with dated looking patterns when styles change. But let's face it, all solids and no pattern makes for a very dull room. That's where a great statement rug can make all the difference.

As you scroll down, notice how most large pieces in these spaces are fairly basic, but the rooms all have a modern, fresh feel because of the bold patterns you s
ee in the form of a rug. Imagine if the rugs were removed, would the rooms have the same appeal?

Before adding a bold rug from West Elm to my guest room the first thing you noticed was the boring white walls.

If you have a room that's screaming out for a hefty dose of bold pattern, enter my giveaway for a chance to win this rug from RugsUsa:

  1. I agree... those rooms would not be as striking without the rugs!

I absolutely love the one in your guest room! What a huge difference it makes!

  2. Love your rug! Great looking......some I love and agree they really make the room but others (the really big patterns) I feel are almost too much and detract. It would make me crazy to walk into my room and see a very busy, huge patterend rug like that as I like calming peaceful interiors...but some of the more toned down ones like yours is a love!

  5. I'm always torn about graphic rugs, because usually the ones I like are out of my price range! I tend to stick to Persian-style for the most part but I do love the look of something more modern and graphic - I'm just not brave enough to take the plunge! Love that giveaway rug but sadly black & white just doesn't work well in our home with all the cream trim.

  6. I love graphic rugs, but I often find that the ones I am drawn to are big ticket items like a couch would be! So I've pretty much stuck with neutral-ish. You're right, though, that they can totally make a room!

  11. Great point. I definitely gravitate towards graphic rugs over more traditional ones. However, any rug still seems like such a "big" purchase to me. I'm always afraid of spending a lot of money then hating it in a few years

Oh, but how I love your guest room rug! It looks perfect in that space.
