Is it Just Me?

I took my daughter costume shopping a couple weeks ago and the choices were plentiful. You could choose between an array of costumes starting at around $49.99 including, but not limited to, slutty witch, slutty nurse, slutty Little Red Riding Hood and slutty Betsy Ross. What's next slutty Raggedy Ann? We came home empty handed. Anyone else have this problem?

Happy Halloween!!

  1. My 18 year old daughter always complains about the same thing. Seriously, slutty Betsy Ross?

  2. I know! I've headed out many times looking for something to wear to a party, and have come up empty handed each time! And I'm pretty sure I've seen a slutty ragged anne doll!

  3. Yes! I'm totally annoyed. My daughter is only 2 1/2 and some of the things I saw for the toddlers/young kids were awful.

Slutty Betsy Ross? Now that's one I hadn't heard of!

  4. I felt the same way! I only have a 2 year old son right now but was thinking how hard it would be to have a girl and deal with that stuff.

  5. Actually, I'm pretty sure I saw a slutty Raggedy Ann in a costume catalog that I got in the mail. Seriously! But that's only marginally better than the "Anna Rexia" costume I read about on cnn.com recently. Yikes.

  6. I know exactly what your saying!! There's no creativity anymore, sorry to say I went to a Halloween party recently and every girl except two me (I was a fortune teller) and the zombie girl were dressed as slutty.

Its getting so silly, no creativity - just saying :)

  7. You know I so agree with you Karen! Everything has gone 'slutty'. I happened to catch a snippit of Desperate Housewives where one of the mom's orders a cat costume online and when she received it, her 12 yrs old was dressed as a slutty cat.

Last year I wrote this post (which I know you read) and thought the costume ideas might be helpful for anyone here who is looking to create their own costume:

  8. Slutty Betsy Ross is hilarious...you'd think she could sew herself a more well-fitting costume... :)

  9. YUCK! Really, Halloween is being used as an excuse to dress like a slut! And yes, I've seen Slutty Raggedy Ann. Raggedy Andy wasn't complaining though.

    Happy Halloween!

  10. LOL! I totally agree! Sadly lots of the little girl costumes are the same way!
Thank you for your encouraging words today!

  11. Amen to that!....I made my 6 yr olds costume just because of this. It had sleeves and the skirt actually covered what it needed to. Well said Karen!

  12. Can you hear the applause, the roar of the approving crowd? I am giving you a standing ovation and a big "You Go Girl"! So well said! What used to be a fun activity for kids is now a way to be vulgar! Good for you!!!! Wonderful post!

  13. I wrote about this on my blog as well! Some things should just be left to the bedroom!

  14. My older boys (12 and 10) noticed this too. Their opinion was that, given a theme (e.g. "Train Conductor"), boys would make it "Zombie or Mutilated Train Conductor" and girls would be "Sexy Train Conductor".

This year these boys were Animal Magnetism and Captain Obvious (their ideas). They've learned that that people giving out candy for Trick-Or-Treat will give better/more candy to the funny and creative costumes (I know I do).
