I know, I know, you thought I fell off the face of the blogging world, but that's not so. I seriously was going through a dry spell inspiration-wise and with the holiday ca-raziness I needed that extended break. That said, on to the post....
Have you checked out the HGTV Dream Home yet? I'm so delusional that I really think it's my year to win and you're all invited to the house warming. The room I'd spend the most time in is the great room. Kudos to designer Linda Woodrum. One of the first things I noticed was the grouping over the fireplace. How easy would it be to recreate the look over the fireplace on a budget by framing fabric in ready made frames? If you're willing to spend a little more and want an nearly identical interpretation, check out prints from Art.com that have a very similar look:

For those of us with two story great rooms finding art that looks in scale with the room's proportions can prove to be very expensive-that's why I still don't have anything hanging over my fireplace since I had my room painted last March. (I know, pathetic, right?) A tight grouping like this might be my answer. Now if I could just nail down the color palette I want for that room I might make some progress.
This is how my room looked prior to the holidays.
Could this be the solution for my bare walls? What do you think would work best with my dark brown walls, black, white or silver frames with bright white mats?
ooh I like your idea the grouping would be pretty!! I like white frames, I think they might pop a bit more off your walls
ReplyDeleteI would have a mix of black and silver frames....What do you think? I am not sure about white....
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, Karen! I've been slow with posting, as well. It takes awhile to get all the Christmas decorations taken down, organized and put away. I like how the frames in the hgtv home are just a little darker than the stone and he white mats just pop. I would go for a dark bronze metallic for the frames.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen! So happy to see you back at the blog. You always have such inspirational posts, so I'm sure the dry spell was just temporary. As for your fireplace, I love the look of black frames and white mats. So crisp!
ReplyDeletei envision dark frames with big white matts. i know you will come up with a winning combo. can't wait to see the reveal.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking silver frames wtih white mattes could be beauitful and would give it the pop of the brown walls and possibly black with white but feel the black is a little dark, think the sparkle of the silver and crispness of the white is whats needed...just my two cents. Welcome back! And maybe it IS your year to win:)
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Karen. I think we all needed and appreciated the down time. I think this would be a fantastic option for your fireplace. I think I would either go for a white frame or a metal as opposed to black. I think it would be nice to have more of a pop rather than black on the brown wall. Let me know if you need a hand with it:)
ReplyDeleteWe've missed you! But I totally understand the need for a break. You know I'm no professional, but I would probably go with white or silver as well. Just so they stand out a bit more.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back!
ReplyDeleteI am having the same struggle in the family room of our new house. It's got amazing vaulted ceilings, but the height combined with the placement of the windows is making it tough to figure out what to do in the room. Once you get it all figured out, please let us know! :-)
What a great affordable idea for a big grouping. That would darling over your fireplace. I'm thinking black frames with a white mat would help balance out the black on the other side of the room, though really any three you mentioned could work. Can't wait to see what accent color(s) you pick.
ReplyDeleteSilver! You have so many other small accents that are silver that I think it would look really chic. And big white mats, definitely. Above our TV I have three big framed pieces of beautiful paper, and framed fabric above our guest room bed. Both are great ways to have big impact for little $. Welcome back! We missed you!
ReplyDeleteWhy not a mix of all three, an eclectic mix?
ReplyDeleteWelcome back:)
Love the ikats. I think something like that would look great in your room! Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteI think that would look great over your fireplace. I would go with white. I think it will pop the most.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! Love this idea! I see you have some silver accessories on the console table so I would do silver. However, the white would work too. I wouldn't do black, the white or silver will pop nicer against the dark walls.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are back and are inspired to begin blogging again. I think silver frames with large white mattes would look amazing in your room. I love your paint color and your slipcovered sofa! Yum!
ReplyDeleteLove your room! I think the silver frames would add some lovely sparkle to that side of the room :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, Karen! For what it's worth, I think it is your year to win the HGTV dream home too :)
ReplyDeleteIn case that doesn't happen, I do think a grouping of artwork like that would look really great in your room.
I think any od the three colors would be great but my pick would be white!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're back! I missed you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty room! I think white would be a nice way to add more brightness to your space.
ReplyDeleteHello, I've just discovered your blog and I really like your style!

I'll add to the vote for white/light colors. What a great solution for that big empty space over the fireplace!
ReplyDeleteBlack with large white mats, no surprise coming from me?!! Black and white!! xo Kathysue
