Do you ever look back at old pictures and think, "What was I thinking when I asked for that haircut?" but a moment later feel better when you realize how great your thighs looked in those shorts? I had one of those moments when an image from a post I wrote two years ago, Easiest Window Update Ever started getting a lot of attention on Pinterest.
I cringe when I see the state of my dining room at the time, but I'm cheered up by the fact that so many people were inspired by the idea-using tablecloths as an inexpensive alternative to curtain panels. As I mentioned in the post, tablecloths are the perfect solution when you don't have a big budget but your windows are bare. Not only are they affordable, but they are available in a large assortment of colors, patterns and lengths and they can be laundered.
A word of caution though: Shrinkage. Avoid that problem by buying your "panels" in a length slightly longer than what you'll need for your windows and prewash them. Sadly, mine shrunk, but I can still use the tablecloths for their intended purpose. Hmmm, now that I think about it, I could make pillows out of them, recover seat cushions....Excuse me now, I have DIYing on the brain.

oh my goodness. that's a lot of times.
ReplyDeleteI think my greatest pinned piece is my fabric backed bookshelf - in this post - http://nefotlak.blogspot.com.au/2011/08/goobs-room-bookshelf-reveal.html
cheryl xox.
My most pinned project are the simple bracket shelves and baskets that I added to my master closet. The second most pinned post is my oldest daughter's armoire. I don't know have a total number for each of the pins. Was there a counter you used or did you just add them up?
ReplyDeletegosh - that's a lot of pins! No wonder though- using tablecloths is a brilliant idea! My most pinned is probably my capiz chandelier :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, I especially like the graphic blue and white against that light wall. Well done. And congrats on those pins!
ReplyDeletethat's a ton of pins! i did see a christmas card of mine got pinned quite a bit. i do love your table cloth idea!
ReplyDeleteThat is a LOT of pins! My most-pinned is our DIY storage ottoman. And yes, I do cringe at pictures. My photography has gotten a lot better (I think?) since I started blogging. A lot of the earlyish posts have pretty crappy photos. Live and learn, right? :)
ReplyDeleteWell I'm glad you brought it up again because I missed that post! Using table clothes IS a great idea and I love that you are actually using them as table clothes now. Dual purpose decorating :)
ReplyDeleteMy most pinned is the twine light fixture I made last year. Funny because at this moment it's in the storage room in our house:)
ReplyDeleteI need to get it together! I haven't pinned in ages! I did remember this post about your dining room curtains though! Your striped walls almost made me paint beige stripes in my family room and then I got mad at painting so I gave up the idea...now i'm back at it though! Next is pinning some stuff :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. the black paint I used for my stripes in my hallway is Valspar's flat black. It's a really thick paint so it only took two coats to go from white to black. No priming necessary! Gotta love that!
Ironically enough, my most pinned post is how I made my guest bath shower curtain out of bedsheets. Seems pinners love to use things other than for their original purpose :)
ReplyDeleteYou must be enjoying the beautiful spring weather. Happy Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI can totally understand why this project/ photo was pinned so many times. It is a really simple yet great idea... I also think the color's & patterns you chose are bold and the overall look is really effective, its stands out (regardless of you not being 100% happy of the state of your dining room ;-))! Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Isn't it exciting when you see something you made on Pinterest. It's so flattering. My most pinned projects are my pinwheel bouquet, and Anthropologie inspired paper trees. Also my 4th of July smores bar. I like this post idea!
